Our Story

RJ Performing Arts (RJPA) has been operating in the Hills district and North Shore for over a decade, but the vision began many years before.

As a freelancing ballet and competition coach, studio Principal Rohanna Jones loved her time working in some of Sydney’s best ballet and dance schools but always felt something was missing for her, she longed to create a safe and nurturing space for students where everyone was treated equally with kindness and compassion.

In 2011 the opportunity finally presented itself and RJ Performing Arts was born.

Built on the foundations of inclusivity and age appropriateness, RJ Performing Arts quickly established itself as a safe and supportive environment for its pupils. Offering only the best in dance education, with access to an industry level teaching faculty, accredited Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) exams, and performance opportunities.

As a student Miss Rohanna studied extensively in classical ballet, completing all Royal Academy of Dance exams up to Advanced level. Upon being accepted into the Tanya Pearson Academy, Miss Rohanna discovered her love for artistic expression flourished under the guidance of some of Australia’s greatest ballet teachers, Tanya Pearson, Julie Wells, and Rita Dubovski to name a few.

Alongside this technical training, Miss Rohanna received invaluable mentoring and guidance from renowned RAD ballet teacher Peta Gray, it is thanks to Mrs. Gray that Miss Rohanna attributes her love of teaching, guiding, and nurturing.

“It is my hope that RJ Performing Arts can be a second home to our dancers, where they feel safe, cared for, and supported. To our families who have been here from the beginning thank you, what an honour it has been to be a part of your dance journey, it is a privilege to be able to pass on my knowledge and love for dance to the next generation.”

RJ Performing Arts acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea, and community. We pay our respect to their Elder’s past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
